Privacy
Last updated
This privacy policy outlines how I use any information that you provide when you use this website.
The policy may shouldn’t change often. It wouldn only need to change if I have to change features or hosting providers etc. However, you should still check back occassionally to make sure you’re happy with it!
Cookies and local storage
I don’t use cookies anywhere on this website, and I don’t store anything that identifies you. The only things saved to your browser are two small display preferences. The image viewer saves whether you last viewed an image fitted to the screen or at full size, and your browser clears this as soon as you close the tab. The theme switcher in the header saves your choice if you pick Light or Dark, so the site remembers it next time. Choosing System removes it again, and clearing your browser data does the same.
Types of personal information I collect
I don’t collect anything about you as you browse. I don’t use cookies, and I don’t track or analyse your browsing behaviour.
Everything is served from this domain, there are no third-party fonts, analytics scripts or trackers.
The only personal information I ever hold is what you choose to send me yourself, such as a message through the contact form, or an email address for the newsletter. Both are covered below.
The contact form
If you choose to send me a message through the contact form, the name, email address and message you submit are processed and stored by Netlify, who host this website. I only use what you send to reply to you, and I never share it with anyone else.
The newsletter
If you subscribe to my monthly newsletter, your email address is processed and stored by Buttondown, who I use to send it. Your email address is the only thing I ask for, and the only thing they hold for me. If I could do the newsletter without it, I would!
I have open tracking switched off, so I don’t know whether you’ve opened an email. I never share your address with anyone, and I don’t use it for anything other than sending you the newsletter.
Every email includes an unsubscribe link, which takes you off the list straight away without going through me.
If you can’t find an email from me, there’s an unsubscribe form instead. This isn’t instant, I’ll need to remove you manually, so I’ll use the email address you provide on the the unsubscribe form to do this.
Links to other websites
This privacy policy only applies to craigabbott.co.uk, and does not cover other websites or services that I link to. If you go to another website from this one, read the privacy policy on that website to find out what it does with your information.
Security
I’m committed to ensuring that any information is secure. I use multi-factor authentication on all services I use to run this website. All passwords are strong, unique and generated by a password manager This is in line with recommendations from the Data Protection Act (DPA).
